Le Meilleur Pinot Noir

2011 Le Meilleur Pinot Noir

Wine Profile

Characteristic aromas/flavors: Exotic aromas of cinnamon, orange peel, wisteria, redwood bark and dried sage come together on the nose. On the palate, red currant, cranberry sauce, aniseed, brown sugar and black tea flavors surround a core of juicy acidity that carries into the densely structured tannins that are a hallmark of this vineyard.

Structure: The 667 clone contributes spice and a firm structural element, while the 777 clone gives the wine its breadth and rich fruit flavors.

Winemaking

Fruit destemmed, with 70% whole berries in tank. Cold soaked at 48°F for 5-7 days. Fermented in open top tanks with manual punch downs. Removed from skins just before end of fermentation.

Barrel Aging

15 months in barrel, 33% new French oak. No racking out of barrel until blending prior to bottling.
